COSTUME

With the disturbingly dark tone and meaning of the song, I want the costume to reflect this – something simple to suit the setting as well as to suggest a sense of nothingness. As seen in 2PM’s monochrome ‘Without You’ video, the members are seen in simple black trousers and ripped tank tops and tee-shirts.

When it comes to colour, black is a definite choice, with its suggestions of mystery as it is rather an absence of colour. Black is a colour of concealment, with associations of hiding things, fear, experiences, the unknown and the unseen. It is also a colour of void and loneliness which fits perfectly with the concept of my video. If not, then any dark clothing will work as most of the video will be in black and white.

Black blazers or jackets will upgrade the look to a more fashionable level and can be used in the narrative scenes to create the Korean artist image.

I may use a simple chain for the performance scenes. Accessories often take the attention away from the performance and create a polished look, but here, I want to create a rough image with a sole focus on the artist and the emotions of distress explained in the song.

I am thinking of a simple cross pendant or a dog tag around the neck. The religious imagery will tie in with the shots outside the Cathedral and create the image of the character being one of depressed and seeking help and comfort in religion and hope. A dog tag just makes the artist appear edgier but will also create a glint of light as it reflects off the shiny surface.
