FAKE RAIN

Creating a rain scene is something I really wanted to try out and so I conducted some research into how to create a successful rain scene.

I watched YouTube videos and search articles and blogs that described the process. Some suggested creating rain wands and structured set ups, whilst some bigger productions showed full scale rain machines and lights.

Working with a little to none budget, I had to find a cost efficient and successful method.

First I had to sort out the lighting and a definite in all tutorials I came across, the rain had to be lit from behind so the droplets are illuminated. On my first attempt, I made a quick set up in my bathroom, using a sheet of black card as the back drop, a small torch for light and the tap to create the 'rain'. It worked but definitely had room for improvement.

The back cross key lighting (researched in Lighting) is the simplest set up and so I purchased two 1 million candle watt power rechargeable halogen torches and they would act as the two key lights on the day of the shoot and another rechargeable torch would help to aid to provide sufficient lighting.

I made a quick lighting plan (not to scale) of the location and where the lights would be positioned. This is just a guideline and the lighting will be adjusted on the day to achieve the best effect.
