• Kabel typeface – used as MTV’s lower third graphics (overlay/captions) at the start and end of music videos became recognisable for the following 25 years

• The 1980s saw more music video being played on channels such as HBO (Home Box Office) and SuperStation WTBS
• Colour Barrier
        o Early years, few black artists were featured
        o First non-white act to play was ‘The Specials’
        o People questioned MTV for the lack of black artists being aired
        o MTV’s reply was that as MTV was started originally as a rock channel, finding African American artists to fit the channel’s format was tricky
        o MTV denied racism
