COSTUME

Here is range of eye make up used on male Korean artists. It varies from the more bear-to-nothing make up to the extreme, bold, impact, make up. Whether it is to one’s taste or not is opinionated, but it cannot be denied that make up is used on males in the entertainment industry and more evidently in the Korean. It is an expectation for male artists to appear in their music videos with bold eye make up on to intensify the camera stares, engaging the audience, whilst helping to create the image they want to sell – also intensifying the ‘pretty boy’ image for the female audience.

Considering there will also be a shoot involving water, I will have to try and find waterproof eye liner and will have to keep touching up throughout the shoot as it tends to fade during the day due to sweat and the face’s natural oil. I may also invest in some BB cream (blemish balm) which is used by nearly all Korean stars both male and female. It can be used as a daily or tinted moisturiser, instantly concealing any blemishes. It is promoted as a cream that acts as an all-in-one treatment, as an alternative to foundation and sells to both cover and treat blemishes. Many artists use this cream as a base layer of cover up and the cream is slowly becoming available in Western stores also. I may consider using some to create an even skin tone for the camera.

For my video, I want the makeup to be rather dark and intense. This will help to create the cold edge that the artists are meant to portray as they feel hopeless and it will also create a greater contrast on screen, adding to the harsh effect I am going for.
