PROCESS

All the marketing/promotional activities are organised by the artist’s manager. He/She creates the schedules and negotiates with companies and organisations for sponsors, deals and contracts. They take charge to create the image that they intend to market for the singer and often this involves a crew of people such as stylists and makeup artists – all these people work towards an ‘ideal’ image that they sell to the public.

Depending on the company an artist is signed to, certain singers will have high budgets to use for marketing and this allows them to create sleek music videos and bigger events, which publicises the artist more. Music videos occasionally mirror Hollywood blockbusters in style. BIGBANG’s ‘Monster’ mv was made with one of their highest budgets to date, with explosion and special effects.

A contrast can be seen when compared to one of their earlier videos, made on a visibly lower budget. So the advancement of technology has to be taken into consideration, but nevertheless, the difference in quality can be seen instantly as with the mise en scene. The simple costumes and locations from this ‘We Belong Together’ mv from 2008 upgraded to the striking, bold costumes and explosive settings in the high definition video. The new, exciting music videos would be more entertaining to watch and interesting and would therefore encourage more views and shares. This helps to promote and publicise the artist and their work.
