I used search engines to research on the history and conventions then for locations, ideas and inspiration when planning. It allowed me to

research into the origins of music videos and promotional products and how they have evolved to become what they are today. Also how

other factors and the development of technology has impacted on the change and the possibilities for the future.

I could also look into specific artists and witness their growth and change in star image, making me understand the need to constantly reinvent oneself to increase fan bases and maintain fan loyalty. The invention of new technologies, social networking and the easily accessible DIY tools has encouraged people to interact more and produce their own products, allowing people to find fame without the need of agencies to manage their activities whilst also a chance to be found by agencies – as seen with many famous mainstream celebrities nowadays such as Justin Bieber.

I viewed music videos, digipaks and posters of the genre I was working on – a hybrid of RnB and rap – and of the past and present and used them to influence and inspire my technical and creative decisions. For example, the 2PM ‘Without You’ video led me to use rain and monochrome effects and Teen Top’s ‘Crazy’ inspired the different camera angles used on the running scenes.

The BTOB digipak also inspired me to use a thick bold band to separate the photos and create a more exciting finish – I used this then separated the photos of the two members and this was intentionally done so to relate to the narrative of the title song ‘Nokturn Sonata’.

The BIGBANG poster greatly influenced me as it brought to my attention how the typography used can greatly affect the overall representation of the star. So I decided on using a rounded font to soften the image created from the bold, sharp logo which produces a harsher effect.
