- 24 hour music television – led to the ‘death of radio’ – less people listening to radio stations
o Artists – promos became a serious part in the release of a new track
- Marketing became vital, with artists needing to create images that would sell and promote their music
- Madonna ‘Like a Virgin’
• Her promiscuous, sexy image appealed to male audiences
• This pushed boundaries at the time but also led to the realisation of many modern artists now that in order to survive the music industry, they must change their image to keep their audiences entertained with fresh material
