HISTORY

o CGI
- First computer generated music video – Dire Straits ‘Money for Nothing’ (1985)
- The use of computer animation in this video was considered sensational in its day and was a treat when played on TV as unlike now, they could not watch any music video at any time on the internet as we do

Maroon 5 ft. Wiz Khalifa – ‘Payphone’ (2012)
This recent lyric video is animated from the start to finish. The quality finish shows a significant advancement from the simplicity of videos created in the past. This technological advancement has made it in some ways cheaper and easier to produce music videos as the artist’s time isn’t needed and it would be cheaper than having to spend on cameras, locations and props. Although generally, most artists would produce a video with themselves in it as it promotes them and makes them more recognisable.
