I also used a range of hand held shots which are more commonly seen in rap and hip hop videos but I used it in my video as it helped to engage the reader with the narrative. In most music videos,

Inspired by Teen Top’s ‘Crazy’ and Korean dramas, the wide angle and medium shot running scenes are common narrative shots. However, I attempted to develop this by having the running scenes be a combination of the past, present and future, challenging the timeline to embark the audience on the journey of the characters.

hand held shots are rarely seen as it detracts from the smooth, high quality finish. The handheld tracking shots of the characters running invite the audience to follow and learn of the story line and add to the idea of the characters’ feelings of desperation and fear as hand held shots are often associated with horror and thriller movies.

PAST/PRESENT: Although this may not be entirely clear – as the aim was to create confusion to reflect the characters’ emotions – the running shots at the start represent Lucifer (Han Kim) before he commits suicide where he metaphorically and possibly physically runs from the suffering, pain and depression in life. The scenes have been shot to show the intensity and complexities of the emotions.

PRESENT THEN PAST: Whereas Mikael runs in the present towards Lucifer who has just called him and the later shots of Mikael (Dzung) running are out of denial and shock as he refuses to accept his friend’s death.

FUTURE/PAST: The shots of Lucifer (Han Kim) running after his ‘death’ are suggesting flashbacks. This forces the reader to personally interpret the video as they see fit and creates a new experience from the familiar, standard straight forward running narrative shots. Such interpretative videos are different from commercial videos and are memorable since they are different.

Within the fast cuts there is also a quick shot of the empty space where in a previous cut, Lucifer can be seen running, once again representative of the death - disappearance from life and earth.

The use of monochrome is used to emphasise the idea that these are happenings of the past and is used to enhance the overall effect.
