The wide screen effect was also used with the aim of achieving a more professional, big budget

finish. Most music videos nowadays are shot on a wide screen format and an increasing number on an extreme widescreen format. It produces a sleeker, trendier finish as these have become the average expectations in the industry which matches with the continuous trend and changes in technology.
The rain scene was also produced to challenge my skills – shooting a video with literally no budget. Working with limited resources, I attempted to create a cost efficient but successful rain scene. With bigger productions and budgets, more lavish rain scenes could be created with the rain machines and structures, easier forms of transportation and hiring of locations.

I encountered many problems with creating fake rain as I struggled to find a location with a water source I could use that would also suit the tone of the video (a grassy back garden would not have worked). When I did find a location suitable, then there was no accessible water source or the transportation of water to the location would have been a difficulty due to the fact I worked with a small crew and travelled via public transport.

Nevertheless, I improvised and managed to film a rain scene using the limited DIY resources I could obtain. I used more close ups and tight framing due to the limited space and area of rain coverage and also to avoid revealing too much of the location that would then not fit the tone and concept of the mv.

So although I failed to create the beautiful wide angle rain shots with the slow motion movements as seen in the 2PM mv, I managed to create a more intimate, dramatic effect through the close ups.
